PARIS - 4 DAYS

What to expect from this trip?

Travel to Paris - the city of love and light. We believe that the first mentioned synonym for Paris should not be explained, but we will say a few words about why it is also called the city of light. Apparently, some believe that such a name arose from the fact that Paris was the first city with street lighting. Many, on the other hand, believe that the very notion of light in this notion emerges as an association with the Enlightenment philosophy of art and education, which was widespread in Parisian circles.

Description

Upon arrival in this romantic city, take a walk along the Champs Élysées. It is a name derived from Greek mythology, in which the Champs Elysees is synonymous with a paradise to which immortal heroes go. With its length of over 1915 meters, and width of 71 meters, the avenue today represents the main street of Paris. With its beauty and architectural uniqueness, it attracts many visitors from all over the world, including newlyweds who choose this place for their photos on which they will preserve one of their most beautiful days forever.

On the avenue there is also one of the unavoidable attractions of Paris, the so-called. Arc de Triomphe, erected in honor of French fighters, especially those of Napoleon's time. With a height of 49.5 m and a width of 45 m, it is the second largest triumphal arch in the world.

Visit the banks of the Seine, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, or opt for a panoramic cruise on Paris. Visit the square Trocadéro, famous for the magical beauty of the gardens and the stunning views of the Eiffel Tower.

The Eiffel Tower is a symbol of Paris and the most visited tourist attraction in the world, which you can visit also by climbing it. The tower was built at a record speed (just over two years), and its original purpose was tied exclusively to the World's Fair in 1889, the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. It is named after the engineer who participated in its design, Gustav Eiffel, and is 300 m tall. An interesting fact is that the tower changes its height depending on weather conditions. In winter it ‘shrinks’, i.e. in summer it ‘grows’ due to the property of steel that expands in the heat.

Cross the Pont au Change bridge and explore the islet of Île de la Cité, home to two important sacral buildings, the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Sainte Chapelle, as well as the impressive palace La Conciergerie.

The Cathedral of Notre Dame (translated as Our Virgin), whose construction began in the mid-12th century, is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It also houses the plot of Victor Hugo's famous novel, The Bells of Notre-Dame. It is believed that V. Hugo chose it as the setting to save it from oblivion and point out its importance and magnificent architecture. In 2019, the cathedral was destroyed in an extremely strong fire, and the reconstruction should be completed by 2024. Christ's Crown of Thorns, which is located in the cathedral and is one of the most important relics, has been successfully preserved.

The Church of Sainte-Chapelle is no less interesting sacred building. It is known primarily for its impressive interior with sumptuous stained glass. It was built by King Louis IX, who wanted to preserve valuable relics in it, including Christ's crown of thorns, which was later transferred to the Cathedral of Notre-Dame.

La Conciergerie Palace is an impressive building built in the early 14th century, and in the past served as the seat of the royal governors of the so-called concierge (hence its name). Later, it was used as a prison where many famous names were captured, including Marie Antoinette, whose room can still be seen in the museum.

Another famous sacred building is the Basilica of the Sacré-Cœur (translated as the Basilica of the Sacred Heart), whose dome offers a beautiful view of Paris. Allegedly, the church was built as a votive church of France, which at that time was affected by numerous wars and revolutions, and it was believed that such a situation could be resolved only by spiritual purification. The church is located on the hill of Montmartre, which is the highest point of the city. It is interesting to know how in the past the lower strata of the class lived in this place, while today this place is one of the most luxurious neighborhoods.

In our tour of the city, we can by no means bypass the famous glass pyramid in front of the Louvre Museum, which serves as the main entrance to it. Next to it, there are three smaller pyramids. The architect I.M. Pei is the one to thank for the construction of the pyramid, he designed it according to the idea of French President Francois Mitterrand. At first, the idea was not greeted with enthusiasm because the pyramid was considered sacrilege, so it was often called a tomb, and Mitterrand was called "the first pharaoh of French history."

In your free time, visit the Tuileries Gardens, located in the heart of the city, created during the reign of Catherine de 'Medici. Discover all the secrets of the castle of Versailles or enjoy the boundless fun of Disneyland.
