Description

Welcome to Cappadocia, an ancient Turkish region! Cappadocia (Persian: Haspaduya) means 'land of beautiful horses'. At the same time, it is a place of beautiful and breathtaking landscapes, as well as a place of rich history. Long story short, this place is really one of those worth getting to know, both from the ground and from the air.

That is why for all lovers of heights, we have included in our trip the possibility of flying in a balloon, which is certainly one of the most popular attractions of this place. That spectacular sensation in Cappadocia began as early as 1991, and the sky full of colorful balloons is now in almost all the photographs that present Cappadocia.

Still, the lowlands of Cappadocia are no less fascinating. See for yourself by visiting the location of Göreme, which is the most famous attraction of Cappadocia, along with the balloons. Göreme, or open-air museum, is famous for its fairy chimneys and numerous underground cities, dating back to the 10th and 12th centuries. Numerous churches carved into the rocks can be seen in these areas, and the place is significant because in 1985 it was placed on the UNESCO list of protected world heritage.

Take a break from sightseeing in one of the many valleys Cappadocia has to offer. Let the imagination do its thing in the Valley of Imagination, known for its miraculous rock formation and untouched nature.

Explore Avanos, a city located on the Kizilirmak River, the longest river in Turkey, which has made the city a tourist attraction. Apparently, the river provides clay for ceramics, which resulted in the city becoming widely known for its pottery. Take a look at making vases, dishes and many other items, or dare to try to make something yourself.

Visit Uçhisar, a place known for its fortress carved in stone, as well as a large number of small caves, which were once home to many people living there. At the top, there is a beautiful view of Cappadocia, and nearby you can find many souvenirs for your loved ones.

Fill your day with adrenaline and dare to take a two-hour quad tour.

Visit paradise on earth, the Ihlara Valley, located on the Melendiz River. Its canyons and beautiful natural beauty will leave you breathless. Drink coffee or tea in the waterfront café, enjoying the sounds of nature. The valley was previously a refuge for Christians, and it used to have 80,000 people living there; the remains of their dwellings are still visible in the rocks, as well as numerous churches.

End the day with an unbeatable tour of horseback riding in the sunset, when the landscapes of Cappadocia are more beautiful than ever.

Cappadocia is also known for its numerous underground cities (just over 200), they used to be shelters that were connected to houses by secret tunnels. On the first floors there were animals, and then warehouses, kitchens, churches and schools. At the time, residents would dig holes in the rooms so they could descend to lower levels. One of the most famous, and the largest underground city is Derinkuyu, which we will visit as part of our trip. It could accommodate up to 20,000 people, is 85 m deep and has 18 floors.

This concludes our adventure in Cappadocia and we return to Zagreb, until the next occasion!
