What to expect
While traveling to Ljubljana, why not stop to explore the beautiful Plitvice lakes!
The beginning of the journey is in the morning, at a previously agreed time and we pick you up at the place of your accommodation. An English speaking driver will take care of you during the journey and make sure you do not miss any of the interesting sites on the way! After a two and half-hour-long drive, you arrive at the Plitvice Lakes National Park, the world’s natural heritage site.
The Plitvice lakes National Park is one of the greatest natural wonders in Europe. It was proclaimed a National Park in 1949, internationally recognized and listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1979, so it is no wonder that Plitvice is an indispensable destination for tourists from all over the world. Once there, you will be provided with the necessary information, maps and four hours of free time to explore the park at your own pace, but the driver will be at your disposal. Inside the park you can explore sixteen beautiful lakes of crystal blue-green water and hypnotic cascades, tour seven different routes, hike four different hiking trails or just lounge in the shade. The Plitvice lakes are widely known as a natural phenomenon because they keep changing through sedimentation of calcium carbonate and create special kinds of algae and moss. Tufa or travertine has been deposited to form the natural dams that separate the lakes. Since the process is still ongoing today, just as before, new travertine barriers, curtains, stalactites, channels and cascades are being built and the existing ones are changing. So, it doesn’t matter if you have visited the lakes before, they probably look a bit different now, so you can visit them all over again and never be bored. Besides the lakes, there are some interesting caves in which remains of prehistoric settlements have been found. After touring, you can also catch a boat or a train ride. We recommend lunch at one of the restaurants/taverns within the Park and traditional specialty requests (optional).
Once you have done exploring, the driver waits for you to continue your travel to Ljubljana. The journey to Ljubljana takes about three and a half hours.
